The Phoenix Suns are Better than the Utah Jazz Right Now

The Jazz and the Suns butted heads with each other all season, duelling for the Western Conference’s top spot. Utah eventually ended up with the better regular season record, but Phoenix wore the real crown, representing the West in the Finals that year.

This time around, both teams again look primed to make the playoffs. But in these first few weeks, the Suns have already established some space between themselves and the Jazz across the standings unlike last year.

Right now, the Jazz sit with an 11-5 record that looks solid, but still pales in comparison to Phoenix’s 13-3 start. However, it goes even deeper than that.

The largest knock against the Suns thus far has been their weak schedule. Having played the Houston Rockets twice, the Sacramento Kings twice, and the New Orleans Pelicans, it carries some validity, but still does not save the Jazz here.

While looking inward at Utah, their schedule has actually been easier than Phoenix’s. Their opponents this season post a measly .398 winning percentage, while Phoenix’s post a still weak, but stronger .418 winning percentage.

Even with tougher hurdles to leap, the Suns carry more wins. You simply cannot put together a stronger case for a team’s superiority than that.
