Key to Success #3: Utilizing more of Devin Booker the ball handler

After a tough start in the opening game of the season, Devin Booker has been great in the last 3 games. Booker’s excellent play was a catalyst for a 4th quarter rally after the Suns found themselves down by double digits in the 4th on Wednesday Night. Booker’s ball-handling involvement has been less than expected in lineups with Chris Paul. We can possibly pinpoint this as a result of Coach Monty Williams reducing the on-ball load as Booker just came back from COVID and didn’t have a good first game.

In lineups where Booker has been utilized as the primary ball-handler with no Chris Paul, the Suns have posted a 110.53 offensive rating and a +12.77 net rating this season. Last game’s 4th quarter rally also largely came with Chris Paul on the bench and Devin Booker running the offense.

With Booker looking at his best as a ball-handler to end the previous game, hopefully, coach Monty Williams decides to task the Kentucky guard with an on-ball burden similar to last season and the Suns get back to their best on the offensive end.
