Phoenix Suns Unignorable Storylines: Chris Paul’s Growing Age

Any time you put one seasoned veteran onto a team filled with younger players, they stick out like a parent chaperoning a middle school dance. But this means not to say that Chris Paul no longer provides value to the Suns. Actually, it’s the exact opposite.

With Paul as Phoenix’s top facilitator and certified closer, they absolutely need him if they want to return to the playoffs and make a run after doing so. For that reason, monitoring Paul’s health at his extensive age remains incredibly important.

Due to this, whenever Paul struggles or looks off during a game, keep an eye out for everyone to call him “washed” or launch full scale investigations about his health. At the same time, any time Paul goes off for more than 25 points or puts up double-digit assists, expect the world to call him the “ageless wonder,” or ask him where the fountain of youth is.

Either way, Paul’s age poises to follow him as a discussion topic no matter how the season plays out. But if CP3 indeed hits a cliff this year and his production significantly drops, his recently signed four-year contract will only add a negative exclamation point to any takes calling him “over the hill.”

Given Paul’s great play last year even despite his growing age, this phenomenon might seem unfair, but at the end of the day, it’s just the way things are. We see LeBron James go through it seemingly every year. These “banana boat bros” just need to keep dodging father time, and prove their doubters wrong.
