Phoenix Suns Underrated Players: Landry Shamet
Any other player sent packing on four different occasions after just three seasons in the league probably just lacks the skills to perform at the NBA level. With Landry Shamet though, that remains far from the truth.
Traded mainly due to his compatibility with most NBA teams rather than anything else, Shamet in now way deserves the “outcast” narrative somewhat attached to him right now. He played big minutes for the Brooklyn Nets last year, especially as they dredged through a tough season that saw guards Kyrie Irving and James Harden fall victim to the injury bug.
Operating mainly as a 3-point specialist, Shamet shot a solid 38.7 percent from range last season. His resume reflects his potential to shoot at even higher marks though, with him shooting 42.2 percent from outside just three seasons ago.
Some inconsistencies kept Shamet from earning a larger role with Brooklyn, but he still possesses an ability to take over contests within a moment’s notice. For example, he played eight games with at least five 3-pointers made last year. Barrages from deep like that often singlehandedly win games for teams, categorizing Shamet as a lethal weapon.
Shamet also carries some sneaky athleticism, and enough speed to hang with just about anyone on the fast break. His defense requires some work, but he remains only 24 years old. That leaves him with significant time continue improving, and hopefully establish a permanent home for himself with the Suns.
