Phoenix Suns Signing Regrades: Signing Ricky Rubio as a Free Agent in 2019

The Suns eventually traded Ricky Rubio to the Oklahoma City Thunder to complete the Chris Paul trade. During his short tenure with the team though, he played relatively well, most notably providing some backcourt relief for Devin Booker as a primary facilitator.

The Suns originally planned to pay him $51 million dollars over a three year period, but due to the trade, they only ended up dishing him out roughly $15 million dollars. He started every game though, averaging 13.0 points and 8.8 assists per game, while also shooting a career-high 36.1 percent from beyond the arc.

But at the end of the day, Rubio still only played the one season with Phoenix, making this signing very irrelevant at this point. The deal served its purpose during its time, but beyond that—not much else exists to say about it.
