The Phoenix Suns look destined to soon enjoy another successful season, still standing equipped with an incredibly talented, and young roster. They just completed a surprise run to the NBA Finals, closing the book on an 11-year stretch dominated by mediocrity and lottery-reliant excitement.
Yes, the Suns lost to the Milwaukee Bucks almost as painfully as possible by taking a 2-0 series lead, and then surrendering four straight games. But nobody expected the Suns to make it anywhere close to that far, deeming the season still a noteworthy achievement nonetheless.
Even across Phoenix’s 53-year history, some viewed last season’s campaign as the greatest one ever constructed by a Suns team. Needless to say, things feel incredible in The Valley for the first time in a long time.
But amidst all this hype, the Suns need to watch out for any pitfalls. Almost every year, at least one team enters its season with title aspirations, but ends up disappointing by exponential measures. Both the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers did so last year, each to a certain degree.
To avoid falling back into trouble, the Suns must make sure that they avoid filling out this unfortunate narrative upon taking the floor a few weeks from now.
With a target above their heads larger than ever, the Suns need to expect greater challenges as they move through the 2021-22 season. Some things may give them more trouble than others, but most of all, Phoenix needs to avoid these two issues possibly looming in their future.
