Coming as a final side effect from the regular season’s delayed start last year, the Phoenix Suns currently find themselves with only a few days to move on from their NBA Finals defeat last week.
With a postseason extending into mid-July for the first time ever, you consequently get an incredibly fast offseason turnaround. But even with this atypical price to pay for making a deep run into the playoffs now pestering the Suns, they must overcome it and elevate their roster if they hope to successfully defend their Western Conference crown.
The NBA Draft opens up Thursday, July 29, and free agency officially begins eight days after that. Forget about the Milwaukee Bucks, forget about Marc Jackson’s verbose commentating, and if you can—try to forget about Scott Foster. A new season lies on the horizon, and that deserves our attention now.
To best prepare, the Suns need to address the following: the NBA Draft, their departing free agents, those which they hope to bring back, and what new acquisitions they want to bring in.
But luckily for the Suns, they have last season’s Executive of the Year James Jones to captain them through this storm. If he manages to put together another stellar offseason, it might not only give way to another NBA Finals berth, but perhaps one with a happier ending for the Phoenix faithful.
Working as a blueprint for him, these moves detail the best way for the Suns to prepare themselves for their 2021-22 NBA campaign.
