Phoenix Suns Important NBA Finals Players: #2 Chris Paul
Chris Paul really could be 1B with Booker at 1A, but for these particular rankings, I have him at number two. The Suns have shown they can win without Paul on the floor; however, that changes on the big stage.
Phoenix needs his high-IQ and playmaking ability. Paul, by far, has the highest basketball IQ out of every player set to step onto the hardwood in these Finals. That’s the primary reason he has been so solid for every team he has played for in his 16-year career.
Paul’s IQ will lead the Suns on both sides of the floor, as well as with the technical aspects of the game such as clock management, and when to give fouls. But along with his IQ comes his playmaking ability.
There is no point guard better at running a team’s offense than Paul. From setting up shooters around the perimeter, to finding his own hot spot at the elbow, all of Paul’s playmaking abilities will be needed night in and night out. Luckily though, the Bucks gave up the second most opponent points per game on mid-range shots this season, certainly something for CP3 to take advantage of.
