Phoenix Suns fans are very aware — and very tired — of watching Devin Booker not getting calls from NBA officials.
Now he’s disrespected on an ESPN click-attracting (didn’t say “bait”) list.
Of course these lists — especially those coughed up by organizations that promote their own discussion shows — are designed to be controversial.
But when does “controversial” become “dumb”?
The Phoenix Suns are eyeing some big potential playoff matchups in the next couple of months, and Booker is the guy — along with Chris Paul — taking them there.
Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker is 24 years old but already has had a career’s worth of disrespect.
Phoenix Suns standout Devin Booker is among the best players in the NBA, much less the best under 25.
So, where does ESPN rank him? Its top 25 players under 25 years old revealed the following guys ahead of Booker: Luka Doncic, Zion Williamson, LaMelo Ball, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, De’Aaron Fox, Ben Simmons.
The rankings also inspired some ESPN-on-ESPN grappling.
Kevin Pelton, Bobby Marks and DraftExpress’ Mike Schmitz voted, and the Booker snub caught the eye of Kendrick Perkins.
Marks, on his individual ballot, ranked Doncic, Williamson, Michael Porter, Jr. and Simmons ahead of Booker, followed by Mitchell, Fox and Ball.
A key question for the panel: Has Booker convinced the industry that he’s pretty much achieved his upside, and that there’s not much more room to improve?
No worries, say most Suns fans, who are much more concerned about the remaining schedule.
ESPN is generally interested in their team only when predicting that a disgruntled (ESPN’s view) Booker could demand a trade — and, hey, how about the New York Knicks as a destination?!
Booker, as is well known, has never indicated that was a possibility, doubling down on his dedication to Phoenix and the Suns.
How will they try to shoot down Booker next?
