#9: Washington Wizards | Onyeka Okongwu

This isn’t a really easy pick for the Wizards, but it really is as their first option is a 3 & D small forward and their second choice is a better option.

With the 9th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery, the 28th ranked defense Washington Wizards select  Center, Onyeka Okongwu, USC.

Onyeka Okongwu is 6’9″, 245 pounds, and is just what the doctor ordered for the 25 worst rebounding team in the league. Their team is set up for the outside shot even with their current centers.

They have no rim protectors…they do now. Okongwu has a 7’1″ wingspan, timing and explosiveness are the reasons why he averaged almost three blocks a game.

In addition, he avered 16 points and almost 7 rebounds while shooting 62% in the paint.  He has a good stroke so his range should expand.

But it’s his high defensive IQ that makes him important to the Wizards.
