Michael Kidd-Gilchrist could add intensity to the Phoenix Suns
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist needs a fresh start. The former #2 overall pick in the NBA draft had a solid few years in Charlotte but injuries took their toll on him. His constant unavailability and inability to shoot soured the fans and when he picked up his player option this season, it caused many in Hornet faithful to roll their eyes.
The Mavericks picked him up after Charlotte cut him, where he played decently against the Suns in the bubble.
Kidd-Gilchrist played the role of Mikal Bridges before it was cool. He is a constant ball of energy whose length and athleticism make him an ideal candidate to guard the opposing team’s best player.
The biggest difference between Bridges and Kidd-Gilchrist, though, is that MKG’s shot is broken, has always been broken, and may never be fixed. Back when he was at Kentucky (and won the National Championship), his form liked like a comedian imitating a cheesy basketball player, and while it was improved since then, its accuracy has not. Kidd-Gilchrist is a career 27.2 percent 3-point shooter and 71 percent free-throw shooter.
He would be a great low-cost asset to add the Suns’ bench and fit the theme of a high-energy, tenacious defense guy the Suns’ second unit currently has.
BONUS: Patrick Patterson
Want a veteran power forward who can both rebound and knock down the 3 who also has playoff experience? Patrick Patterson provides exactly that. Patterson has bounced around the league, but has always been consistent and is yet another guy who could provide scoring off the bench for the Phoenix Suns.
Watch the playoffs for enjoyment, but also keep these guys in mind and see how they do just in case the Phoenix Suns look to utilize their services next season.
