The 4 best players the Phoenix Suns have selected at #10
1. Ron Lee (1976)
The Phoenix Suns took Ron Lee out of the Unversity of Oregon with the 10th pick in 1976.
Ron Lee was a 6’4″ point guard who spent five years in the NBA, his first two and a half with the Phoenix Suns where he enjoyed his most success. Lee averaged 10.2 points his rookie year and followed it up with 12.2 points per game his second season, but more impressively, he led the NBA in steals that year with 255 (2.7 per game).
Because he was always moving, Lee earned the nickname “The Tazmanian Devil” and he was voted the most popular player by the fans in 1977. My favorite tidbit about Lee was that a furniture store in Phoenix offered a free waterbed to the fan who could most accurately guess how many times he would hit the floor in the Suns’ 41 home games. The answer was 230.
Despite his popularity, the Suns traded Lee midway through this third season to the New Orleans Jazz along with Marty Byrnes, two first-round picks, and cash for Truck Robinson.
According to a very interesting “where are they now” piece the Suns did, The Tazmanian Devil finally settled down in Sweden.
