The Phoenix Suns will send their General Manager, James Jones, to represent them at the much-delayed 2020 NBA Draft lottery.

The NBA released who will represent each team for Thursday’s lottery, and it will be General Manager, James Jones, who will serve the Phoenix Suns‘ good luck charm. The Suns’ have the best odds to land at the 10-spot, as luckily, their 8-0 run in the bubble did not hurt their lottery chances, but they have a 13.9 percent chance land in the top four and a three percent chance to nab the #1 overall pick.

Jim Pitman, the team’s Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President represented the Suns the last two seasons, most notably in 2018 when the team landed the #1 overall pick. With his luck not quite as on-point last year (Zion Williamson would have been nice), it will now be James Jones rubbing on a rabbit’s foot when the ping-pong balls start bouncing.

The Phoenix Suns have not had the best lottery luck.

Hopefully, Jones can change the Suns’ luck. The last time the Suns moved up in the draft was 1987 when they upgraded from the fifth-best odds to the #2 overall pick. That being said, Jones will ultimately be much more accountable for what he does with the pick, wherever the Suns land.

If that 1987 draft, the Suns used their pick on Armen Gilliam, passing up on the likes of Scottie Pippen, Kevin Johnson, Horace Grant, and Reggie Miller.

Jones took huge slack in the 2019 draft for reaching on Cameron Johnson, but he is the one laughing now, as Johnson proved to be one of the better rookies in the class.

Despite that solid mid-first-round pick and this draft class’s lack of talent, the higher pick the better. Even if the Phoenix Suns don’t use it, they could potentially trade it for a reliable veteran.

So, put on your rally caps, Suns fans. The NBA lottery starts at 5:30 p.m. Arizona time on Thursday, August 20th.
