#28: Toronto Raptors: Cassius Winston | Combo Guard | Michigan State
At some point, you have to look past shuttle times, wingspan, vertical jump, and all of the other athletic markers scouts often prioritize when evaluating prospects and just pick a good basketball player.
Cassius Winston is exactly that.
He is not the biggest guy (6’1″), nor is he the most athletic, but he has been constantly been Michigan State’s best player for multiple seasons and at some point that has to count for something.
In a way, he reminds me of Fred VanVleet, who was a star at Witchita State and just kept doing his thing in the pros until he now finds himself as the starting point guard for one of the best teams in the league and in line for a huge payday next season. If the Raptors keep him, he would serve as a great model of success for Winston.
Winston is a guy who is always in attack mode. He averaged over 18 points per game two seasons in a row for Sparty and served as their leader both in the stat sheet and on the floor.
He is the kind of guy that every team wants, and I don’t see him slipping past the first round.
