#14: Portland Trail Blazers: Tyrese Maxey | Combo Guard | Kentucky
Tyrese Maxey was supposed to come in and be the next point guard star in a long list of point guard stars to play under John Calipari. However, when Aston Hagans decided to stay in school after this freshman year, Maxey was forced to play off the ball, and it took some adjusting.
That is what I contribute to the less-than-stellar stats he showcased.
Maxey shot just 29.2 percent from 3 and 42.7 percent from the field. However, he still managed 14 points per game because he is a guy always in attack mode. He is just 6’3″, 198 lbs., but he has a quick first step and possesses a quality floater in the lane.
He is the type of player that could come in and produce points off the bench, kind like CJ McCullum did his rookie season. Portland feels like a good match for Maxey’s skill set, as he fits their score-first guard mentality, and has enough upside to be worth a late lottery pick.
