4. The backup point guard situation is still a mess

Getting Rubio back is a huge win for the Suns because the backup point guard situation is just as big of a mess as ever.

This game, it was Cam Payne first off the bench along with Jevon Carter. In the first two games, it was Ty Jerome who saw early minutes for the Suns, but Jerome was resigned to end-of-game minutes in this one.

Carter and Payne played with the regular rotation guys and while they struggled to get it going on offense, they matched Rubio’s game-high with four steals. Overall, the Suns had 22 steals on the day.

That is a lot.

I’m not going to dwell too much on the four point guard lineup Monty Williams played for the entire fourth quarter and the end of the third. He was giving his rotation guys a break and when a third of your roster is point guards, what else are you going to do? Frank Kaminsky and Cheick Diallo who took turns pairing up with them for some unique basketball.

We won’t see it in a real game and we shouldn’t put much stock in anything that happened during this time.
