Phoenix Suns: 6 questions going into the first scrimmage game
Will we see any of the rumored new experiments?
Monty Williams has publically pontificated on some new experiments we might see when the Phoenix Suns retake the floor in Orlando, however, if these scrimmage games mimic how preseason games are run, the won’t run anything fancy.
Typically, preseason games utilize basic offensive and defensive schemes in an effort to not give away on film any tricks that might be up the coaches’ sleeves. I’m not sure that will be the case with these scrimmage games because unlike the non-COVID preseason, there are 82 games to make a run for the playoffs.
Now, there are eight, and the Suns need nearly all of them to have a chance.
That might be a reason to experiment with Point-Booker, small ball, or at the very least, encouraging Deandre Ayton to shoot more 3s. Work out the kinks now so that when these games count, players will feel more comfortable with them.
It will be interesting to see what, if any, wrinkles Monty unveils.
