8. Tyler Johnson
Stay with me here. When the Phoenix Suns waived Tyler Johnson shortly after the trade deadline, there was no buyout. Johnson did not agree to take any less than the $19.25 million he was owed in this, the last year of his contract which he picked up as a player option.
Granted, he will now be paid a pro-rated amount due to the hiatus, but still, he is not voluntarily giving up cash.
That means the Phoenix Suns are going to be paying him whether they sign someone else or not, so why not bring him back for eight games? He served as a great mentor to Ty Jerome, who may earn a decent amount of playing time in Disney if the Suns drop a few early games.
This likely won’t happen, but it would be an opportunity for Sarver to convert a sunk cost into free labor.
