11. “STAT” Amar’e Stoudemire

You probably think Amar’e Stoudemire’s nickname is “STAT” because the man filled up the stat sheet in pretty much every category and it loosely sounds like the first syllable of his last name.

You’d be wrong.

While those are definite reasons why this nickname adds to its appropriateness, “STAT” is actually an acronym for Standing Tall and Talented.

Stoudemire embraces this mantra, and in his post-playing career, he has written a series of books with the same title based on the 11-year old version of himself. “STAT” is an avid reader and one of his passion projects is to encourage kids to read more books.
