5. AJ Price #1
An even greater Phoenix Suns injustice comes in the form of not putting Amar’e Stoudemire in the Ring of Honor. Even more deserving the Shawn Marion, in his prime, Stat was the best big man in Phoenix Suns history. His duet with Steve Nash was pure magic and it led some incredible teams.
What makes his number retirement kind of awkward is that he changed it from #32 to #1 in 2006. Both are still fair game and future players haven’t seemed too shy about snagging them. One of those players in Devin Booker, who took #1 his rookie season and didn’t look back. If and when both Booker and Stoudemire are placed in the Ring of Honor, they’ll have to share in the #1 commemoration.
Awkward.
Three other players wore #1 between Amar’e and Booker. Goran Dragic wore it in his second stint with the Suns as well as Josh Childress who joined the team after a two-year hiatus in the Euro League.
But the worst was A.J. Price who only scored six total points in the five games he played on a 10-day contract at the end of the 2014-2015 season. Those would be the last five games of his NBA career.
