As if NBA players don’t already have enough, Phoenix Suns forward, Mikal Bridges, now has a card that grants him free Chipotle for a year and I’m jealous.
There are already so many reasons to be jealous of NBA players. Tons of money, interludes with celebrities, summers off, the list goes on. Now you can add free Chipotle every day to that envy catalog. It turns out Phoenix Suns wing, Mikal Bridges, specializes not only in defense but also burrito bowls.
This hot and juicy news (pun totally intended) first broke a couple of months ago but Ball is Life just posted a YouTube exposé on this rare perk, and it is deceptively fascinating. It chronicles his history with the food chain, dating back to his High School days. At first, he was skeptical of the hype, but Bridges soon found himself eating there every day. Every. Single. Day.
It is an obsession that still burns today. In the video, he talks about going there all the time in almost every city the team plays.
"“If we have practice, come back, shower, and meet on the bus at this time, and especially if Chipotle is this close, trust me, trust me. I’m always getting Chiptole.”"
And why not? For him, it’s free. Mikal was graced with the gift of a card that gets him free Chipotle every single day for a year.
This is a big deal, and the happiness it gives him exudes on his face during the interview. It came in a package like it was a special edition iPhone. On this wooden box that looks like it might have held a rare, expensive bottle of wine in a former life, an engravement reads:
“This box is not big enough to hold your hopes and dreams, but it can hold several pencils, a deck of cards, a small to medium-sized rubber band ball, or hundreds of burritos made with responsible, sustainable ingredients.”
Mikal’s order? Bowl, white rice, no beans, chicken, hot salsa, corn, cheese, guacamole (even that’s free), and lettuce.
The only other person he knows who has one of these special cards is his Phoenix Suns teammate, Frank Kaminsky. They’ll just randomly text and be like, “Chipotle?” and the answer is always, “Of course.”
Serious question. If you had free Chipotle every day for a year, how often are you going? Once a week? Three times a week? Five?
I feel like this is one of those things that starts off hot and subsides over time, but that doesn’t sound like the case with Mikal Bridges. The man is dedicated to the cause, and I don’t only envy his card but also his level of dedication.
Me, I’ve always been more of a Qdoba guy. The queso is what put it over the top, but now that Qdoba is a dying breed and Chipotle (finally) has their own queso, well, don’t be surprised if you see some Chipotle tweets from the Valley of the Suns Twitter account in my endeavor to land one of these exclusive cards.
