The Phoenix Suns haven’t exactly excelled with their NBA draft picks as of late, but that doesn’t mean they’ve always been bad. Let’s walk through every decade see where they got it right.

When you have been around for 52 years as an NBA franchise, you are bound to have some
home runs and some major whiffs in the NBA Draft. As we head toward its 2020 rendition (whenever it may come) where the Phoenix Suns find themselves in the lottery for the 10th
straight season.

The NBA Draft is the literal lifeblood of professional basketball as the new stars of tomorrow
and the next era of NBA players enter the league on an annual basis as aging stars begin to
fade and rising stars begin to ascend the league hierarchy.

While improving through free agency and trade has been the calling card for some of the NBA’s
more recent dynasties (see: Miami Heat and Big Three era Boston Celtics), top tier free agents
are still difficult for most NBA franchises to acquire and it is not very often that a true superstar
is available on the trade market.

The draft is and always will be the best way to build a championship roster.
