All-Time Phoenix Suns team: Starters and reserves
By Tyler Knight
Frontcourt Reserves
Backing up Marion at small forward is going to be ’19-’20 Kelly Oubre. Oubre can dunk on whoever he wants, shoot it from anywhere on the court, find his way inside, rebound the ball, and play excellent defense, all while, like Marion, not having plays called for him every possession.
The ’19-’20 season was a breakout season for Tsunami Papi. He averaged a career-high 18.7 points per game and 6.4 rebounds on 45 percent from the field. Oubre’s charisma is unmatched and his energy would be perfect on a team contending for the playoffs. Plus, he is pretty good at basketball.
I know he has never been an All-Star, but my reserve Power Forward is going to be ’10-’11 Channing Frye. Frye is the definition of a stretch big, putting up 11 points and 5 rebound averages that season while scorching opposing teams with 43% from outside. Frye was a key piece to that special 2010 Suns team and help take them from good to great.
Ending my 10 man rotation is going to be ’19-’20 Deandre Ayton. In the limited action we saw from DA this season, he has been different. His rebounding took a leap, he has shown his dominance inside, and he has become a much-improved defender.
Ayton is having himself a season with 19 points per game, 12 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks on 54% shooting. Ayton can shoot the mid-range when he is on a roll, has a beautiful hook shot, and a solid rebounder.
Adding all of that talent to my All-Time Suns team is as good as they come. None of those guys have a problem sharing the ball but can keep it in their hands when needed, all are terrific teammates and overall would just gel perfectly together in my opinion. That is why I would select those 10 on my All-Time Suns team and take them in a series against any other squad.
