2016

Eric Bledsoe
Brandon Knight
Tyson Chandler

Ah, 2016: the year the Phoenix Suns were led in scoring by the Kentucky trio of Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, and rookie Devin Booker.

As tempted as I am to make an All-Kentucky Phoenix Suns 3-on-3, sticking three guards out there breaks all the guidelines I established as what makes a good team.

The problem is, which two of these three players earn the spot?

As much as fans now despise Eric Bledsoe for his now infamous, “I don’t wanna be here,” tweet, he was really good for the Suns this year. He led the team in scoring and 20.4 points per game so he’s in.

The decision between Brandon Knight and rookie Devin Booker was a tough one even for the coaching staff back then. Earl Watson claimed to be the martyr who played Booker over Knight, but that is a hill I’m not sure I would die on. The truth is, Knight was better this season than 19-year-old Devin Booker, who averaged 13.8 points compared to Knight’s 19.6.

Numbers talk, and Knight gets the nod.

The next problem is there were no remotely good big men on the Suns in 2016. The highest scorer of any non-guard that year was Mirza Teletović, and I mean…I can’t put him on the team.

That leaves me with Markeiff Morris, but nope, that was the year he got traded to the Washington Wizards.

Moving on down the roster, that sticks me with past-his-prime Tyson Chandler. He’s a big body, has a great beard, and was good at one point in his career. Let’s go with him.
