We’ll start with the first year professionals were allowed to compete in the Olympics; the year of A Few Good Men, Achy Breaky Heart, and the greatest basketball team ever assembled, the Dream Team.

Well, minus Christian Laettner, of course. I will die never understanding how or why he was chosen to be part of this magical group.

There were decidedly no members of the Phoenix Suns on the Dream Team, but 1992 wasn’t a bad season for the orange and purple. The finished 53-29, earning them a 4 seed, but they lost to the 1 seed Portland Trail Blazers in the second round.

This year is tough to pick a 3-on-3 squad because the team played with two small guards, Jeff Hornesek and Kevin Johnson. While this worked out well for them in the NBA setting (the two led the team in scoring), not having any size in 3-on-3 would be detrimental.

So, since we have to just pick one, I have to go with the better shooter, and that is Hornesek, who led the team in (scoring 20.1 points) and shot 43.9 percent from 3.

Dan Majerle came off the bench this season, but still managed the third-best point total on the team at 17 per game. He and Tom Chambers give this hypothetical 3-on-3 team size and scoring.

I am very tempted to go back and erase 32-year-old Tom Chambers’ name in favor of KJ, but I’m not sure how he at 6’1″ and Hornesek at 6’3″ don’t get abused on defense. TC24 it is.
