Devin Booker’s best performance since joining the Phoenix Suns
By Kyle Manthe
In a time without basketball Devin Booker’s most outstanding performance since joining the Phoenix Suns came in the last week.
Forget 70 point games, buzzer-beating shots, or the week where he averaged more than 50 points over the course of 3 games. Since joining the Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker has never performed at the level he has this past week.
Following in the footsteps of numerous players across the NBA, and sports in general, Devin Booker is joining in to help people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Booker’s initial donation is $100,000, which is matched by Phoenix Suns Charities and is spread out across two organizations.
Where Booker’s contributions go the extra mile is through his Twitch channel. All of the money made through donations and subscriptions to his stream will be added on top of the money already pledged.
Ever since the NBA was put on hold for at least 30 days, Booker has been streaming on his Twitch channel nearly every day, which means the amount raised will be that much higher.
This move by Booker is the latest in a series of actions that show his support to the Phoenix Suns and the community. Most notably is the creation of “Devin Booker’s Starting Five,” which gives five local charities $100,000 dollars each for five years.
Being the face of a franchise is a role that comes with many extra challenges and responsibilities that are often not asked for. When it comes time to step up in those situations, Booker has done so each and every time, all while still being only 23 years old.
That type of leadership is, while not only very valuable in a time like this, it also gives himself a deserving positive image to those who do not keep up with the middling Phoenix Suns, who are rarely broadcasted on national television.
Even if there is no impact on basketball, Booker has certainly made a positive impact in the lives of many in these past days, and that deserves to be recognized. A big thank you goes to Devin Booker for being an all-star on and off the court.
