The Phoenix Suns may not be signing Jordan McRae after all because the Detroit Pistons are rumored to make a claim for him as well.

Less than 48 hours after Woj rubber stamped the Phoenix Suns open roster spot with Jordan McRae, the basketball gods have intervened. Just like the Detroit Pistons stole a game from the Suns this weekend, it looks like they may be stealing their waiver wire claim too.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo! is now reporting the Pistons have turned their attention McRae due to Derrick Rose being sidelined for multiple weeks due to an ankle injury.

How does that matter? Well, the Pistons have a worse record than the Suns which puts them higher on the waiver wire. If both teams make a claim for him, then he would go to the Pistons once he clears.

We expect to hear of McRae’s fate Wednesday afternoon.

It isn’t as if Jordan McRae is the magic bullet that will turn this team’s momentum around, but he would fill the void Kelly Oubre left at wing, after going down with a meniscus injury.

About that: John Gambadoro tell us Oubre is undergoing surgery on said meniscus. Currently, there is no reported timetable for his return, but I would be shocked if he sees the court again this season.

If the Pistons do swoop in and snatch up McRae, it would be insult to injury after the Pistons, sans most stars and full of G League talent, came into Talking Stick Resort Arena and beat the Phoenix Suns with the help of their own former player, Brandon Knight.

In order to fill that last spot, there are a still few other players out there for grabs. It is unlikely a player like Dion Waiters or JR Smith, both who are vying to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, would be a good fit for the Suns.

They could bring back Jonah Bolden, but that was likely a short term signing to assist their depleted frontcourt.

That leaves me to re-emphasize my earlier point that the Phoenix Suns should re-sign Troy Daniels.

He can score points off the bench, and that is exactly what the Suns need to avoid a total bloodbath in the final 20 games of the season. They may still be subject to slaughter anyway without Oubre, but some reliable shooting will at least make the pain more bearable.

All eyes are on the waiver wire.
