Preview of the Phoenix Suns’ 2020 Draft: Picking every lottery pick
The Phoenix Suns could make the playoffs this year, but they are more than likely to find themselves in the lottery. Here are some picks they could consider.
With the final stretch of the season underway and aspirations of the 8-seed in the West, the Phoenix Suns have one of the hardest remaining schedules in the NBA. They should and will obviously try and win every game moving forward, and it will be the first year in a while where the Suns will not be “tanking.”
Having said that, the odds of them getting to that 8-seed with this schedule, even if they try to win every game, will be very, very difficult, so for argument’s sake, let’s assume they will find themselves in the lottery.
Where the Suns fall in this year’s NBA draft will be very important. The 2020 draft has been noted by many as a weak draft, however, it is always so hard to tell what the draft entails until years after the draft has actually transpired. There could be a gem in there.
With holes to be filled on this Phoenix Suns roster, the draft could be a place to fill them. And with the new lottery system, any pick in the lottery seems attainable, as seen by the New Orleans Pelicans’ sheer luck in obtaining Zion Williamson last time around.
It is a very slim chance that the Suns will end up in these first five positions if they do, they should take advantage of it. Obviously, trading a top-10 pick could prove to give the Suns the asset they want moving forward, but for the sake of the point, I will assume trading the pick is not an option.
