The Reason Suns Fans Should Have Patience Award – Monty Williams

With all the angst that this season has given Suns fans, between Ayton’s suspension; the 7-4 started followed by a 4-16 slide that was culminated in an eight-game losing streak; the worry that Devin Booker might demand a trade; the questioning about what the roster will look like after the trade deadline; throughout it all has been one, patient and professional man who has never lost confidence in his team, or had confidence shaken in him by the fan base: Head Coach Monty Williams.

Aside from maybe Phil Jackson, there was no better potential head coach that James Jones could have hired this offseason than Monty Williams, the one leader that appeared to be capable of not only righting the team’s ship, but that was so well-liked and respected around the league, the Los Angeles Lakers thought that they had Monty in the bag when James Jones managed to snag him.

The fan base should feel very confident that with Monty on the sidelines, this team will continue to grow and improve and it will not denigrate itself into a public airing of he-said/he-said’s if the team does slide into another losing streak as the franchise has been accustomed to; and that he will get the best out of every player on the roster, no matter how much Robert Sarver attempts to screw it up.

Like James Jones and the Executive of the Year award if the Phoenix Suns make the playoffs, Monty Williams should absolutely be in the conversation for the similar, Coach of the Year award as well, if come late May, the team has an extra few games to play beyond that of the originally scheduled 82.
