Why the Atlanta Hawks would do it

The Atlanta Hawks are getting Andre Drummond, who would become the roster’s third center along with Damian Jones and Alex Len.

Either Jones or Len (both on expiring contracts) immediately become expendable, and the Suns have really nothing contractual to offer for the services of Len for the remainder of the season to help retain depth at center following the loss of Aron Baynes.

The Hawks’ addition of Jevon Carter (who is not the regular backup in Phoenix anyway), helps with point guard for the remainder of the season, while not hampering Atlanta with any contracts that they would be stuck with long-term.

For them, the crown jewel is the nabbing of Drummond for basically nothing, making the further addition of Carter for Jones a roster-wash.
