Why the Phoenix Suns would do it

The Phoenix Suns need a power forward.

The Phoenix Suns need another scorer.

The Phoenix Suns need a star.

Blake Griffin checks off all three of these boxes.

Is he the ideal  player to acquire?

Absolutely not. Obviously on most Suns fan’s checklists is Karl-Anthony Towns, and even I would personally prefer Kevin Love‘s recent injury history (plus his rebounding, passing, and outside shooting) over Griffin’s.

However, beggers cannot be choosers, and the Phoenix Suns (or at least their fans) are begging  for a star player to kick start the winning again and hopefully keep Devin Booker happy.

Moreover, Phoenix would only be trading expiring contracts and would not lose any of their pieces of the future.

In fact, the new lineup does not look all  that bad at all:

PG – Ricky Rubio/Elie Okobo
SG – Devin Booker/Mikal Bridges
SF – Kelly Oubre/Cameron Johnson
PF – Blake Griffin/Frank Kaminksy
C – Deandre Ayton/Damian Jones

Admittedly, Griffin’s contract is entirely obtrusive

It is $35.5 million next season and $38.9 million to close out his deal in 2021-22.

Speaking of player’s contract’s I’d rather, I’d totally prefer Aaron Gordon – more on potentially acquiring him soon.

However, being that beyond this season Griffin’s contract is only two years, James Jones can still continue to improve upon the roster this summer, and bring the franchise back to a decent level of prominence in the Western Conference.

While actually winning some games and maybe a playoff series or two, while using the text two seasons to map out his next big move while Booker, Ayton, and Oubre are still young.
