#4: Making James Jones Official

James Jones transitioned to permanent General Manager back in February, and it has a move the Phoenix Suns have not regretted.

Key additions he secured this offseason include Dario Saric, Aron Baynes, Frank Kaminsky, and of course, Ricky Rubio. Baynes and Kaminsky have enjoyed the best season of their careers, and Ricky Rubio has proven to be the skilled veteran point guard for which the Suns franchise has been clamoring for years.

It’s not been all rainbows and unicorns during the Jones era. This deal to sign Rubio was blasted around the blogosphere and his draft day was met with serious criticism from fans and pundits alike. Cameron Johnson and Ty Jerome may end up being awesome, but Johnson was a major reach at #11 and Jerome, well, it’s too early to tell.

Having said that, Cam Johnson has shown to be just a great of a shooter as was advertised and has been a key part of team this year. Maybe Jones knew something everyone else in the sports would did not.

The best thing about Jones getting the full time job is that he is universally respected around the league and is in position to create some long-term stability in a role and that hasn’t exactly seen the game’s greatest minds in the past.
