Elie Okobo and Ty Jerome

Ricky Rubio Mixtape

As is well documented, no one has seized the role of backup point guard yet. Jevon Carter, Ty Jerome, and Elie Okobo have all gotten cracks at it, each with a varying success.

While Carter is getting a plate full of rocks for Christmas from me, his game is fueled by that bulldog mentality. Okobo and Jerome, on the other hand, are much more likened to the Ricky Rubio style of point guard play.

Smart. Heady. Able to create. Always willing (and able) to find the open man.

Jerome and Okobo are young guys trying to figure out how their game fits into the modern NBA. At times they are just trying to figure out what they’re game is. Well, they have a good mentor right now in Ricky Rubio.

There are plenty of impressive Rubio highlight reel mix tapes out there for all to see, so I figured the two of these guys could use some in their stockings. Maybe this is a little insulting and it is certainly not creative enough to garner different gifts for each guy, but Rubio is who he is because of how he plays, not necessarily the athlete he is.

Okobo is probably a better athlete and they are both arguably better shooters than Rubio, so in theory, they should be able to improve with some helpful tips.

I’m sure Rubio gives them these tips every day and they don’t need me to put together a mixtape for them, but you know. What else are you going to get them?
