1. Josh Jackson – WS -2.4 (-0.029)
Drafted 4th overall in 2017
If you are at all shocked by Josh Jackson being the worst pick in the last decade, then you have not been paying attention to the Phoenix Suns.
He is by far the worst draft selection in franchise-history.
Phoenix Suns
He is a complete and utter bust; he owns the worst Win Share of any player in his entire draft including the second round; and he may already be forcing himself out of the league all-together by the age of only 22-year-old with how he is handling time in the Memphis Grizzlies’ organization.
Boy, did Ryan McDonough really have no clue how to draft.
To make matters worse was how he was acquired.
McDonough swore that he would have taken Jackson first overall if he had had that pick, and supposedly even used some intrigue to force Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics into selecting Jayson Tatum one pick ahead of the Suns.
Even worse is who was selected right after him: De’Aaron Fox. Then two picks later, Lauri Markkanen.
Then eight picks later, Donovan Mitchell.
Then with the 27th overall pick, Kyle Kuzma.
When you think about all the losing fans of the franchise has endured over the last ten years (484 losses and counting), to think that three top-ten picks are already off the roster with seven seasons combined under their belts in Phoenix, and two other first round picks lasted less than a year-and-a-half combined, then you know the decade was rough.
Here is to the 2010s ending and the 2020s bringing about much better draft selections, and hope that the then five worst first overall picks are nowhere near as bad as these five.
