3. Cameron Johnson – WS 1.0 (.090)
Drafted 5th overall in 2019
James Jones surprised just about everybody when he selected Cameron Johnson with the 11th pick in the 2019 draft. Many projections had Johnson sliding into the 20’s so his selection in the mid-lottery was entirely unexpected.
Thus far, though, he has proven the brilliance of that selection, most specifically with this 3-point shooting.
While many players with a high outside shooting percentage in college end up losing their stroke in the pros (Mikal Bridges and Tyler Ulis are two that come to mind), Johnson’s shooting percentage has carried over perfectly, keeping fan’s hopes of he being a Klay Thompson-like player well alive.
Shooting 40.5% from beyond the arc thus far on 131 attempts already, he is proving valuable on the defensive end as well, averaging 3.1 rebounds in only 21 minutes, for 15.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per-36 minutes.
Already with a Win Share of 1.0 through December 22, 2019, his WS per-48min is fourth among all rookies who have played in at least 500 total minutes.
