Rubio’s flat shot

With Booker not 100%, the Suns needed one of their other big 3 to step up, and while Ricky Rubio contributed 22 points, he had five turnovers and shot 1-6 from behind the arc.

Far be it from me to tell a star NBA basketball star how to shoot, but man, I really wish Rubio would put some more arc on his shot. Usually, messing with someone’s jumper is a recipe for disaster, but at some point, one must simply refer to the laws of gravity.

Rubio shoots such a line drive shot, his margin of error is essentially nil. This isn’t the case of Markelle Fultz or Lonzo Ball, who had to redesign their actual shooting form. This is simply a matter of putting a little more arc under it so that the ball approaches the rim moving downard instead of looking like it was shot out of a cannon.

The knock on Rubio has always been his shooting, and while he has bettered his average most of the season, physics was bound to catch up.

It seems like such a fixable flaw, and yet, he continues to heave bullets at the goal. As pretty as his scoop layups and precision passes are, his shot, well, is not.

There was someone whose shot did look good tonight, though…
