Investment into the Future

To many Suns fans, Robert Sarver is a four letter word.

He isn’t is conspiracy theory scapegoat to the Suns struggles in over the past decade. By many accounts, he has been the primary driver of the franchise’s lack of success. There is little doubt he has earned the wealth of criticism he has received over his tenure as the Phoenix Suns owner.

Having gotten that monumental caveat out of the way, you have to give credit where it is due.

The investment into the new practice facility, and more importantly, into Talking Stick Resort Arena will do wonders for this organization moving forward.

Not unlike universities dumping millions from boosters into state-of-the-art athletic facilities in order to attract the best recruits, these construction makeovers will make Phoenix a much more attractive destination for future free agents (ahem, like Karl-Anthony Towns and Deangelo Russell).

It will also serve as incentive for future Suns’ free agents to resign with the team (ahem, right, Devin Booker?).

Of course, it is too early to tell how future personnel will be affected by these updates, but it is a good sign that Sarver isn’t staying complacent, and is doing what he can set up the Phoenix Suns well for the future.

Suns fans don’t get to thank Sarver much, but again, give credit where it is due.
