Aron Freakin’ Baynes

What can be said about the Australian big man that hasn’t already been said? The man is a beast in every way.

Here are some of the things where Baynes reigns supreme:

  • Setting screens
  • Taking charges
  • Having beards

Yeah, Aron Baynes has the best beard in the NBA; I don’t care what what your uncle from Houston says. He will likely be wrong about other things this Thanksgiving as well. Add his opinion on best NBA beard to that list.

But on top of those intangibles, those don’t-show-up-in-the-box-score attributes, Baynes has impressive actual stats too.

Baynes is averaging 14.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, all of which are career highs. However, the most impressive aspect of his game has been his 3-point shooting (44.2%).

With all the will-he-or-won’t-he shoot 3s talk surrounding Deandre Ayton this season, Aron Baynes shot and subsequently made a bunch of them in China at the FIBA World Cup and carried that hot shooting into his fresh start as a member of the Phoenix Suns.

If it wasn’t for a nagging hip flexor, the Baynes would be back on the court helping the Suns win some of these games they should have (i.e. against the Kings and Wizards). Hopefully, for basketball and beard fans everywhere, he will be back soon.

Then and now, everyone, give thanks.
