There are a harvest full of goodies you are probably thankful for this Thanksgiving. Most likely, these have something to do with family, health, and that deal you got on an early Black Friday sale. If you’re a Phoenix Suns fan, though, you could be thankful for much, much more.

Do you know the reason everyone wraps presents for Christmas? Part of it is to make it look pretty, but the core intent is to make its contents a surprise to the person opening it. Regardless of how cool the actual gift is, it is exponentially more exciting when it is a surprise.

It is the same philosophy why fancy restaurants and grandmas everywhere cover their dishes until right before they’re eaten. Well, that and it keeps the food warm.

The point is what makes the Phoenix Suns’ early season success so exhilarating, and thus so thanks-worthy, is how unpredictable their winning has been.

Sure, there was some hype. No matter how level-headed a fan is, there is always a seed of hope planted before the start of every season.

Having said that, even the most hardcore fan, if he/she were being honest, would admit the goal of this season was to take a step forward, which is code for be better than last year but probably not make the playoffs.

Last night’s loss to the Washington Wizards was a bad loss. There is no way around that. The Suns have put up a couple stinkers this year. It is the NBA. It happens.

So, the Suns sit at 8-9 (with the league’s hardest schedule) yet look like possible contenders to make the playoffs.

But what about this team makes it so special? The short answer is: a lot.
