With the start of the season right around the corner, the Phoenix Suns treated fans to an open practice Sunday afternoon. Here are 9 takeaways from the short, but fun event.

The Phoenix Suns held an open practice on Sunday afternoon to give fans a glimpse at this year’s squad. These public exhibitions can be a little awkward, but the players embraced the atmosphere and put on a solid show.

Leading the team in enthusiasm was none other than Kelly Oubre Jr., who burst out of the tunnel bouncing around like kid on Christmas morning. His energy was contagious and you could tell other players fed off it.

The Suns may not win a ton this year, but if this positive attitude continues throughout the year, the players are going to have a lot more fun than previous seasons.

Kind of like Kelly Oubre Jr.’s shorts, the event itself was short. After half an hour of Suns entertainers doing their thing, including a strange game of musical chairs and trampoline dunkers missing a lot of dunks, the players finally came out.

After their introductions, they kicked off the basketball action with a few weave drills. Then, they split up and worked on shots and post moves before running some offensive sets. And that’s about it before a rookie dance off put a cap on the day.

The whole thing lasted about 45 minutes after the players came out.

There was a decent showing to the event with half the lower bowl filled. I’m horrible at crowd estimation, but there were easily a few thousand fans in attendance.

If you couldn’t make it, here are 9 observations in (near) chronological order.
