Aron Baynes is Awesome

When asked the absurdly strange question on whether or not his time playing rugby a decade ago helped him prepare for his basketball career, Aron Baynes retorted brilliantly:

"“Absolutely not. (It caused me to have) a lot of fouls early on. So I wouldn’t say (it did). I’m not afraid to take a hit. On the defensive end, verticality, taking charges, it’s all fun. It’s not near as hard as I used to get hit anyways.”"

There is an old saying that goes: “Never wrestle a pig. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.”

While that saying is much more metaphoric than the analogy I’m proposing here, it is still a relevant comparison:

Never get physical with Aron Baynes. You both get hurt, and Baynes likes it.

He also let everyone in on some behind-the-scenes conversations about this time battling Ricky Rubio at the FIBA World Cup:

"“(Ricky) is the MVP so he’s already told me I have to refer to him as that, so that’s fair enough.”"

That kind of friendly punishment isn’t as creative as Rubio making Baynes run with the bulls in Spain, but at least Ricky didn’t let him forget who is international boss.

Maybe it is just his Australian accent that makes everything he says sound funnier and more interesting that it might otherwise be, but Baynes is setting up to be this year’s Phoenix Suns interview MVP.
