Who might be available if the Phoenix Suns go star shopping?
By Kyle Manthe
This summer the Phoenix Suns built their roster around their two young stars in Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker. Recent history suggests it takes three stars for a team to compete for a title, who might be available this coming season?
The Phoenix Suns appear to have a very good start to what could eventually become a very good team. However, it takes two to tango – and three to win an NBA championship.
Over the last five years, multiple stars around the league have changed jerseys – some more than once.
Even though it seems like that movement might begin to slow down, there is reason to believe that this carousel is going to keep spinning. If so, who might become available who’s name could end up on the back of a Phoenix Suns jersey this coming season?
Some believe that Devin Booker could be one of the next stars to decide to make a mess and demand a trade. However Booker doing so on a 5-year contract going into a year with the best roster he has ever played with would be a curious decision so for the purposes of this activity Booker remains content throughout the season.
All of these players are ones who are viewed as the most likely to be available at some point in the coming season just based on the situation that they are heading into with the current respective franchise’s in 2019-20.
Players who make no sense for the Phoenix Suns and have already been traded this offseason such as Chris Paul are not apart of the list for those reasons.
One realization from all of this is that there are always going to be “star” level players on the market to be traded for in today’s NBA. Each team just has to hope that one of those stars is not their own. Windows of opportunity are shorter for each team but can also be accelerated quicker than ever.
Over the next six months until the trade deadline, the Phoenix Suns will have their fair share of opportunities to add a third member of their future big three with Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker. Even with multiple young assets and cap flexibility this is not to say that the Suns will or should spend a lot to acquire one of these players, this is just who might be out there if they decide to do so.
