The Phoenix Suns should bring back Alan Williams

While the Phoenix Suns main rotation is set, a few roster spots are still available for end of the bench depth pieces. One player the Suns should have at the top of their list is former fan favorite Alan Williams.

For the first time in what feels like forever the Phoenix Suns do not have a glaring need on their roster.

The talent distribution is spread pretty evenly over each position with enough depth and versatility to create a rotation with different looks.

However, in case of injury, the Suns are still in need of a third string power forward and center who fits the Suns’ new culture and preferably grew up in Phoenix.

Of course I am talking about Alan Williams, famous for his bench celebrations for the awful Suns teams he was apart of before joining the Brooklyn Nets and leading group celebrations and dances from the bench that more people actually paid attention to.

We all know that he should be doing that back in Phoenix where he belongs, for the team he grew up rooting for.

A case could be made with legitimate basketball reasons that other big men are better fits or better players to add to the Suns roster next season. Phoenix basically already signed one of these guys in Frank Kaminsky, who will probably get the backup power forward minutes over someone like Williams.

However, when it comes down to it, the skill gap is not going to be large enough to trump everything else that Williams brings with him.

Just in the last two years the Phoenix Suns have essentially used Ryan Anderson, Jared Dudley, Troy Daniels, and Dragan Bender as cheerleaders for large stretches of the season. Half of this group are signed to minimum contracts for 2019-20, and the other half have not signed with a team yet.

It is not like there is no room on the roster for a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency guy who’s main job role is to be a great locker room and energy guy. And who can find a better guy for that role on the Phoenix Suns than Big Sauce himself?

Williams will work hard every day, never complain, be loved by the city and fans, has a great relationship with Devin Booker and would actually be getting a raise from his 2-way contract he had with the Nets last season!

It would be a great deal for both sides if the Phoenix Suns brought back Alan Williams for the 2019-20 season.
