One trade the Phoenix Suns could complete on draft day with every team

Dallas Mavericks

Obviously the Suns would love to have Luka Doncic or Kristaps Porzingis

I initially thought of Josh Jackson for Dwight Powell, but Powell is reportedly not only going to pick up his player option (which would have needed to happen for that trade to go down), but the two sides are working on a contract extension.

Welp, okay.

Then I thought, what if the Suns picked up the last two years of Tim Hardaway Jr.’s exorbitant contract (saving the Mavs a ton of money right away) along with a couple of future first round picks for the 32nd overall pick (the Suns need a point guard and Dallas has a number of good ones including Luka).

Well, the Mavs do not have a first round pick available for trade until 2025, meaning that if Phoenix paid Hardaway his $27 million over the next two years, they wouldn’t be compensated for it for six and eight years.

I mean, it could  be an investment – especially if the picks were unprotected – but boy is that extremely forward thinking.

In the end, that trade doesn’t really help the Suns at all since Hardaway really is a shooting guard which would force Booker to continue to play point, a situation I believe that the Phoenix front office would prefer to avoid, so how about this: the 32nd overall pick this year for two future unprotected second round picks – although it would have to be 2021 and 2022 at the earliest.

Dallas really does not have a lot to work with.
