Boston Celtics
With Kyrie Irving presumably going to the Brooklyn Nets, Anthony Davis now in L.A., and Kevin Durant nursing a torn achilles, the Boston Celtics might have just gone for NBA Championship competitor to re-builder over night.
Personally, I am not high on Marcus Smart at all and do not think that he is a cornerstone guard for any team in the league, but this is one trade with every team and he is a point guard, so he wouldn’t be the worst acquisition.
James Jones and the Phoenix Suns should offer Danny Ainge six and 32 for Marcus Smart and the 14th overall pick.
Smart still has about $40 million remaining over the next three years so the Celtics save a good chunk of change there, plus they get a much higher draft pick.
The Suns add a veteran point guard, and while his shooting notched up considerably this past season, his career shooting has been one of the worst ever, so while I do expect him to drop back to his previous terrible averages, he plays defense which helps Devin Booker and his lack of shooting will keep Book as the central focus of the offense like he needs to be (my only worry about the possible addition of D’Angelo Russell is how much the rock will be taken from Book).
