One trade the Phoenix Suns could complete on draft day with every team

Minnesota Timberwolves

I tried to consider (realistic) splash trades as often as possible, and one that had been talked about to some degree last season and couple arguably be revived right now would be a swap of Deandre Ayton for Karl-Anthony Towns.

The difference between last season and now is that the Minnesota Timberwolves have seen Ayton in action and can be rest assured that he is going to be really good.

Phoenix can also sweeten the pot with the sixth overall pick, something they did not have at their disposal last season either.

Towns gets to pair up with his besty Devin Booker, and if James Jones could find a way to dump Tyler Johnson’s contract off on somebody (maybe offer he, T.J. Warren, the 32nd overall pick plus the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2020 first round pick to the New York Knicks in a subsequent trade and who are flush with money), then use the cap savings to sign D’Angelo Russell should he be made an unrestricted free agent, bringing the three non-banana boat buddies together again.

If that doesn’t work out, the Suns could also swap Tyler Johnson and the 32nd overall pick for Jeff Teague (who has one year left on his contract and at about the same contract as Johnson’s).

Minnesota can then stretch Tyler and use the savings to acquire…D’Angelo Russell themselves…
