Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies have Mike Conley, Avery Bradley, and potentially Delon Wright if they re-sign him (although I think Wright would also be an absolute steal for the Phoenix Suns in free agency).
Doesn’t the addition of Ja Morant seem like the Grizzlies would then have an amazing embarrassment of point guard riches? (I know that I used a similar phrase earlier with the Atlanta Hawks’ first round draft picks, but seriously – spread the love; sharing is caring; whatever. Help a brother – Booker – out.)
And yet, while rumors now circulate that the Utah Jazz are front runners to acquire Mike Conley, how about – entirely unexpectedly – the Phoenix Suns offer six, 32, Milwaukee’s 2020 first, Phoenix’s 2021 first overall, and T.J. Warren, for the second overall pick.
It’s basically a grandfather trade for a 19-year-old, but the beauty is that, even if Memphis does trade Conley to Utah, they’re still going to have a shot at a point guard at 6, they’ll receive two additional first round picks, plus a player to replace Chandler Parsons who is mercifully (for them) coming off of the books after next season, and could end up finally becoming the perfect trade piece for a team needing an expiring contract at the trade deadline.
Aside from Zion Williamson, Ja Morant is probably the only other player that Phoenix Suns fans really wanted in the NBA Draft, and while he is projected to be a legitimate star – regardless of the franchise he suits up for – one never knows if he isn’t what the Grizzlies are most excited about potentially walking away from the draft with, and Phoenix’s offer is something that they would have to entertain.
