5. Phoenix has a young, talented core

Although this is probably the most important in the end, it is also the low hanging fruit so I wanted to get it out of the way first.

For all the losing, for all the awful planning, for all the mismanagement and poorly scouted drafts, James Jones actually did acquire a reasonable amount of solid talent when he took over as General Manager, which begins with the obvious star and key figure, Devin Booker.

While I do not believe that if Booker is on the first Suns team to win a title that he will average 26+ points per game, I do believe that the fact that he has already reached a point in his career to average such a stat proves his innate and special ability that will lead to an eventual leap into stardom – finding at least on which is the most difficult part of putting together a championship team.

Think of all the franchises who have floundered for years without a star. No franchise can win without one, and the game of basketball is played to the degree that a franchise needs at least two if not three.

But like the old adage “the first million is the hardest to earn,” the same can be said about the acquisition of stars, and the Phoenix Suns have their one.

Fortunately too, they might have a second under contract as well.

We’ll see how Deandre Ayton develops in his second season, first with new Head Coach Monty Williams, but if he is the star that Ryan McDonough believed him to be when he chose the center first overall over point guard Luka Doncic, than the roster will be well on it’s way to having the number of stars necessary to reach the league’s pinnacle.

But what if they need more than two?
