Shams Charania has reported that the New York Knicks are one of two teams that Anthony Davis is focusing on to be traded to. Some have speculated that a deal will require three teams. The Phoenix Suns should be that third team.
Many fans of the Suns want James Jones to find a blockbuster deal for Phoenix to be involved in, and while they would prefer the Suns to land a superstar themselves, beggers can’t be choosers, and in the position the franchise is in, they are beggers.
Across the country, superstar Anthony Davis has demanded out of New Orleans, but the list that last season appeared vast and wide, now seems to be shrinking by the day leaving the Pelicans with few options of decent returns as teams aside from those Davis has pointed out would fear trading away the farm, only to lose The Brow after one year.
Now, according to Shams Charania, Davis is said to be focusing on the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, his shortest list yet.
The Pelicans themselves at this point seem to believe that they have no choice but to move him, and should they wait until the trade deadline, with Davis’ unrestricted free agency looming, their return will be significantly less with only 30ish games remaining on a team’s schedule rather than the current full slate of 82.
As one of the two teams that Davis is now focusing on joining, New York’s management are going to look through every possible method to computation him, while Knicks fans are excited with the possibility of landing a young superstar, especially following the loss of one that is bound to be far easier to build around than their prior one, Carmelo Anthony.
Some have speculated that for a trade to happen with any team, a third team will need to be involved, and New York in particular does not have a lot to offer New Orleans alone (being a team who just finished 22-60 and lost out on the Zion Williamson lottery).
It turns out, that this is a perfect scenario for the Phoenix Suns to be that third team, as Jones has a roster with multiple assets to offer and two major holes they need to fill themselves.
This might be the perfect trade to make it all happen:
If consummated, this would be a blockbuster trade, a deal that would shake up the league. But for the Phoenix Suns to be involved and have a return package as strong as this, even by missing out on acquiring Davis themselves, it would be huge for them, and fun to be a part of.
And yet I feel like some of you need some convincing; or need additional information to convince the detractors you know.
