Brad Berreman of FanSided’s Step Back blog recently speculated on five players he believes the Phoenix Suns should trade their sixth overall pick for. Let’s take a closer look and see if we agree.

The once proud Phoenix Suns have become a franchise written off as a bottom-feeder for far too long and fans are desperate for an influx of talent – however they can get it – who can help lead the young core to the playoffs.

Of course General Manager James Jones could find that star player in the draft, but after sliding from potentially owning the first overall pick to now selecting sixth, the odds of that star being available to them are extremely slim.

That said, the pick can be utilized to acquire a valuable piece via trade, something that I for one am all for, and the team will not make a leap in the standings this season without a point guard to helm Monty Williams‘ new offense.

All of that leads us to a recent post written by The Step Backs’ Brad Berreman.

In his piece that you can read here, Brad discussed five potential point guards (all of whom are good in their own right) who the Phoenix Suns could trade their sixth overall pick for.

Let us take a deeper dive into these potential trade targets and see if we agree.

Number five – Reggie Jackson

Reggie Jackson was once discussed in trade talks involving the Phoenix Suns last season, but no deal ultimately came to fruition – and in my opinion for good reason.

As Brad so aptly put it in his piece, “Jackson’s inclusion here points to how lackluster the options are for the Suns to add a viable veteran point guard in a trade,” all the more reason to avoid trading the sixth overall pick for him.

While James Jones should seek out the best available player in a potential trade, if Jackson is the best, Jones should just make the pick and move on.

While Jackson is a nice piece on a team, he is not the kind of point guard who a rebuilding team would add to their core, and with Devin Booker‘s scoring presence already on the roster, adding a player who is not really that strong of a facilitator would not produce the kind of results that fans are so desperate to see.
